Help with linux error

My linux is doing something strange -

Currently I have linux mint 9 (i'm not sure which version it is), and i don't think i did any updates or anything, but recently, it suddenly started showing this error and hanging:

Process: 291 GLib-warning **: get pwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id(0)

It first started last week, and then today it happened at least twice. Will I have to update my linux to Linux Mint 10?

:(

There is apparently a bug report on Launchpad about this. Someone on Ask Ubuntu says it's a rather generic error and hard to diagnose.

Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. :\

*patpats*

When did the problem start? Where does it hang? Have you asked on the Linux Mint forums, the Ubuntu forums, or Ask Ubuntu for help?

You could try upgrading maybe, although you seem distressed about the thought of having to.

This might be worth a thought.

All Linux user information is taken from a bunch of files in /etc (user, group, etc). Maybe some other program wrote something into one of them that's causing the Glib error every time it tries to parse it. Why don't you try opening up the files and seeing what's happening to them?
