Jabber transport for Skype?

I wasn't sure where to ask this question but I thought jabber is quite popular among Linux users, so maybe you can answer my question.

Does anyone know if there is a jabber transport for Skype? We use Jabber at our university, but a lot of our students use Skype, so it would be nice if I could chat with them without having to start the Skype client all the time.

I know that kopete has plugins for both Jabber and Skype, but the Skype plugin just starts the skype client, hides it, and intercepts messages to it, I think.

However, this more directly answers your question:

Sorry. As I mentioned, there are chat clients for Linux, including Kopete and probably Pidgin (I haven't used pidgin in a while, so I can't say for certain), that have plugins for both skype and jabber, but because of the way Skype is designed it seems nobody has created a jabber transport.
