I noticed a marked difference in performance when I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10/ext3 to 9.04/ext4. How much was ext4 and how much was general Ubuntu performance increase, I don't know, but based on reviews I'm inclined to think ext4 played a significant part, and since I haven't experienced any problems with it so far, I'm pretty excited about it :o)
